No parent can ever imagine having to be told their baby has died at a stage where they are preparing for a life with their newborn. The shock and numbness is unimaginable. When people think about baby loss they think of the loss of a tiny life. Baby loss however is so much more. It’s the loss of an entire lifetime. A lifetime of plans, of memories, of hopes and dreams.
Each box along with items included in the box costs approximately $130.00. A generous donation was provided to launch the program but ongoing donations are required to sustain it. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to the Obstetrics Memory Box fund. Donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.
In memory of my angels, Ella Rose Brown (January 1, 2013) and Lowen Jack Brown (April 19, 2015), my family established the Obstetrics Memory Box program that is offered to grieving families who lose their baby at the Victoria Hospital. By providing a memory box filled with personal mementos, we are dedicated to helping parents who are grieving the tragic loss of a baby to stillborn or newborn death. Our goal is to try to help families to have as many precious memories of their much-loved baby as possible, and to have something to carry with them away from the hospital so they aren’t leaving empty-handed. Our hope is that these boxes will provide comfort and everlasting memories of their precious baby. – Ashley McDonald
